Hawaii Department of Transportation announces nighttime lane closure on Piʻilani Highway

The Hawaii Department of Transportation announced on Mar. 17 that the right northbound lane on Piʻilani Highway near East Waipuʻilani Road will be closed for night work, with one lane remaining open for through traffic. The closure is scheduled from 8 p.m. Thursday, March 19 to 5 a.m. Friday, March 20, and will continue nightly from Monday, March 23 to Thursday, March 26. The department said the last closure for the week of March 23 will end at 5 a.m. Thursday, March 26, but work may finish earlier.

This closure is taking place several miles north of the section of South Kīhei Road that remains closed following the Kona low pressure system. A contractor is performing work related to a new intersection for the Maui Research & Technology Park residential subdivision. The shoulder in this area will remain closed around the clock during the project.

Drivers are asked to obey all traffic controls and drive safely around workers. Additional closures are expected through March and April. Updates or changes to the construction schedule can be found on HDOT’s social media pages.
