The Hawaii Department of Transportation announced on May 1 a single lane closure on the Kapaʻa Bypass Road between Kūhiō Highway (Wailua) and Olohena Road (Kapaʻa), beginning Monday, May 4. The closure will be in effect from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Monday through Saturday, to allow for the application of sealant that requires daytime curing.

This work is part of ongoing improvements to the two-way bypass road, which was recently paved and now needs new striping. The department said striping will take place from Thursday, May 14 through Saturday, May 23 during the same hours each day except Sunday. The entire project is expected to be completed by the end of May.

Work schedules are subject to weather conditions, and electronic signs have been posted in advance. For updates on weekly lane closures and further information about roadwork schedules, residents can visit the Hawaii Department of Transportation’s website at https://hidot.hawaii.gov/highways/roadwork/kauai/.
