Hawaii collected 10.8% less in alcoholic beverages sales tax in 2021

Of the $8 billion in taxes collected by Hawaii in 2021, $45.2 million came from alcoholic beverages sales tax, a 10.8 percent decrease from the previous year, according to the U.S. Census Bureau’s Annual Survey of State Government Tax Collections (STC).

Hawaii collected $50.7 million in alcoholic beverages sales tax in 2020.

The STC survey includes five broad tax categories and up to 25 subcategories. Data is gathered from all 50 state governments and all dependent state-level entities.

The Census Bureau sets the tax classifications among the survey categories and cautions they may differ from the classifications set by the state governments.

Nightly closure planned at Nawiliwili Road-Kukui Grove intersection for utility survey

The Hawaii Department of Transportation (HDOT) has announced that the intersection of Nawiliwili Road and Kukui Grove Street in Līhuʻe will be fully closed to northbound traffic each night from Sunday, February 8 through Friday, February 13.
