The Hawaiʻi Department of Transportation (HDOT) has provided an update on ongoing improvement projects on the H-1 Freeway and the H-201 Moanalua Freeway. These projects, which are part of a broader effort to enhance transportation infrastructure across O‘ahu, involve several key areas.

On the H-1 Pearl City and Waimalu Viaduct, crews are engaged in deck demolition and concrete work during weeknights from Tuesday to Friday between 7 p.m. and 4:30 a.m., with additional weekend work. The project is expected to be completed by March 2027.

The H-1 Salt Lake Rehabilitation involves paving and guardrail work in both directions, with closures occurring primarily over weekends. Due to weather-related delays totaling 203 days, the completion date has been pushed back to June 2025 from May 2025.

Concrete deck and roadway improvements on the H-1 Freeway Airport Viaduct continue nightly from Tuesday through Monday, excluding Monday nights. The revised completion date for this project is now August 2025 instead of June 2025.

For the Eastbound H-1 Freeway Improvement Project, efforts are focused on widening the freeway and constructing new retaining walls. This includes daily lane closures as necessary, with full overnight closures anticipated for installing a temporary pedestrian bridge in September 2025. The project’s completion is targeted for March 2027, delayed from January 2027.

Work on the H-201 Moanalua Freeway involves resurfacing activities with full westbound closures scheduled Sunday through Friday evenings. This section is projected to finish by May 30, weather permitting. Subsequent repaving up to the Hālawa/H-3 Freeway off-ramps will follow, with an estimated end date of November 2025.

Motorists are urged by HDOT to exercise caution and heed traffic control measures while navigating these areas. Special duty police officers will assist with safety procedures during construction periods.

All timelines are subject to change based on weather conditions. Further information can be accessed via HDOT’s online resources for weekly roadwork updates and lane closure notifications.
