The Hawaiʻi Department of Transportation (HDOT) has announced the closure of three right lanes on the eastbound H-1 Freeway. The affected section stretches from the Kaimakani Street Overpass to the eastbound Nimitz Highway off-ramp (Exit 15). This closure will commence at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, March 14, and continue until 4 a.m. on Monday, March 17.

The closure is part of ongoing work for the Salt Lake Rehabilitation Project. Crews will focus on repaving the roadway in the shoulder and far-right lane within this area. Consequently, the right shoulder will also be closed during these operations. Motorists are encouraged to use Moanalua Freeway or other alternate routes during these hours.

This schedule is expected to repeat over several weekends as part of broader project activities. These include roadway reconstruction and repaving, guardrail installation, and striping and signage installations for the H-1 Freeway Salt Lake Rehabilitation Project. The project aims for completion by May 2025, depending on weather conditions.

Motorists should exercise caution and adhere to all traffic control signs while traveling through this area. Message boards have been placed to inform drivers about closures in advance. Special duty police officers will be present to assist with safety measures, and first responders have been informed about the closure.

Lane configurations may change weekly within this schedule. For comprehensive information on scheduled lane closures across state roadways, HDOT directs motorists to visit their website at https://hidot.hawaii.gov/highways/roadwork/.
