The Hawaiʻi Department of Transportation (HDOT) has announced a complete closure of the Puʻuloa Road off-ramp (Exit 3) from the eastbound Moanalua Freeway (Route H-201). This closure is scheduled for Friday, May 16, from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m. the following day, due to striping work.
According to HDOT, “Striping in parts of the work area has become difficult to see,” prompting crews to install new striping over two weeks to improve safety for motorists. The upcoming work will focus on the left half of the Puʻuloa Road off-ramp, with plans to address the right half on Friday, May 23.
The project will also involve intermittent closures of the right lane on the eastbound H-201 Moanalua Freeway for installing six pavement arrows before reaching the off-ramp. Motorists can use the shoulder lane during work hours; however, full closures may occur intermittently. Alternative routes include using Fort Shafter/King Street off-ramp via Funston Road and westbound Kaua Street off-ramp to Kikowaena Street for accessing Māpunapuna business district.
Special duty police officers will be present for traffic control and safety procedures. Electronic message boards will inform motorists about this planned closure.
“HDOT thanks the public for its cooperation as we work to maintain safe facilities.” For more information on state roadway lane closures, visit HDOT’s website at https://hidot.hawaii.gov/highways/roadwork/.
