The Hawaiʻi Department of Transportation (HDOT) has announced full closures of the westbound H-1 Freeway Airport Viaduct for concrete deck work as part of ongoing improvements. The closures will occur on Friday, May 16, and Saturday, May 17, from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m., between the Keehi Interchange and the Pearl Harbor Interchange. This is to facilitate the installation of expansion joints across the roadway.

During these hours, access to the westbound Lunalilo H-1 Freeway, Nimitz Highway, and Kamehameha Highway on-ramps to the Airport Viaduct will be restricted. Motorists will be rerouted via Nimitz Highway. However, the Rodgers Boulevard on-ramp from Daniel K. Inouye International Airport (HNL) will remain open. The Aolele on-ramp near the lei stands will be closed from 11 p.m. Friday until 1 a.m. Saturday.

This work is in addition to an ongoing weekend closure affecting three right lanes on the westbound H-1 Freeway/Airport Viaduct. These closures are expected to continue until mid-June with project completion anticipated by August 2025.

Motorists are urged by HDOT to “drive with caution” and “be aware of all traffic control signs and barriers.” Special duty police officers will assist with safety measures during this period.

The work schedule is subject to weather conditions which may alter final completion dates.
