The Hawai‘i Department of Transportation (HDOT) has announced a full closure of the Waiʻalae on-ramp to the H-1 westbound starting Monday, May 5, and running through Friday, May 9, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Despite the on-ramp closure, the Waiʻalae Avenue lane will remain accessible, with traffic being redirected to Waiʻalae Avenue and then to the 11th Avenue on-ramp.

The temporary closure is necessary for repair work on the damaged concrete base of a light pole adjacent to the freeway at the Waialae on-ramp. The project involves the demolition and replacement of the concrete base. Due to the noise generated by the demolition process, the repair cannot be performed at night, as it would disturb nearby residents. The period may also include other repairs and tree trimming.

Police presence will be ensured for traffic control during the closure.

Variable message boards have been posted to alert drivers of the changes. For information on weekly Oʻahu lane closures, visit the HDOT roadwork page online.
