The Hawaiʻi Department of Transportation (HDOT) has announced nightly closures of the Hālawa and H-3 Freeway off-ramps from the westbound Moanalua Freeway. This closure, affecting Exit 1D and Exit 1E, is due to ongoing work activities at the Hālawa Interchange.
The work will take place Sunday nights from 8 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. the following day, and from Monday to Friday nights between 9 p.m. and 5:30 a.m. The projects include installing in-pavement loop detectors for tracking vehicle volumes, asphalt repaving, and marking throughout the area.
The scheduled work is planned to last for two weeks, concluding on Friday, May 9. Notably, progress is contingent on weather conditions.
For those affected, motorists will be rerouted westbound via the H-99 Stadium/ʻAiea Exit to access the H-3 freeway. Special duty police officers will manage traffic control and ensure safety during the closure. Electronic message boards will alert approaching drivers.
