The Hawaii Department of Transportation announced on March 15 that the H-3 Freeway at the Halekou Interchange will be fully closed starting at 1 p.m. Sunday for repairs to power lines over the freeway. Drivers heading into Kāne‘ohe will be redirected to the Likelike off-ramp, while those traveling toward Honolulu will be directed to Kamehameha Highway. The Kamehameha Highway on-ramp to the H-3 Hālawa/Honolulu-bound lanes will also be closed. No closures are planned for the Kamehameha Highway detour route.
The department said this full closure is necessary for safety reasons so that vehicles are not driving under ongoing linework operations. Hawaiian Electric is responsible for providing further details about their repair work. While an end time for the closure has not been set, officials do not expect work to extend into Monday, March 16.
