H-1 Salt Lake Rehabilitation Project extended to February 2026 due to noise restrictions

The Hawaiʻi Department of Transportation (HDOT) has announced an extension to the H-1 Salt Lake Rehabilitation Project. The project, which was originally expected to be completed by October 2025, is now projected to finish in February 2026. This change is due to noise variance restrictions that prevent repaving activities from taking place on weeknights because of the proximity of residential homes.

As a result, the contractor will shift work schedules to allow only for continuous weekend closures on the H-1 Freeway. Specifically, crews will close the three right eastbound lanes between the Kaimakani Street overpass and the Pearl Harbor/Nimitz off-ramp (Exit 15) from 6:30 p.m. Friday until 4 a.m. Monday through February 2026.

Remaining tasks for the project include reconstruction and repaving of eastbound lanes, installation of guardrails and signs, as well as placement of rumble strips and final striping in both directions. HDOT stated that final striping work will be scheduled based on crew availability and will be announced accordingly.

HDOT advised motorists to drive with caution, pay attention to traffic control signs and barriers, and plan their commutes ahead of time. Special duty police officers will be present at the site to assist with safety procedures. All work is subject to weather conditions, which may affect the final completion date.

Nightly closure planned at Nawiliwili Road-Kukui Grove intersection for utility survey

The Hawaii Department of Transportation (HDOT) has announced that the intersection of Nawiliwili Road and Kukui Grove Street in Līhuʻe will be fully closed to northbound traffic each night from Sunday, February 8 through Friday, February 13.
