The Hawaiʻi Department of Transportation (HDOT) has announced that the two southbound lanes of Puʻuloa Road, near Kilihau Street and Nimitz Highway, will be fully closed for repaving work from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. during the week starting Monday, Aug. 18 through Thursday, Aug. 21.

According to HDOT, full closures of the southbound lanes are scheduled for Monday and Tuesday evenings. The northbound lanes will be closed on Wednesday and Thursday evenings. In addition, Kilihau Street will be closed in both directions each night between Puʻuloa Road and Māpunapuna Street to allow for repaving through the intersection and along Kilihau Street itself.

During these closures, traffic on Puʻuloa Road will be contraflowed through open lanes. Motorists are advised to use alternate routes through the industrial complex if possible. Drivers are also reminded to exercise caution and follow all posted traffic control signs.

Message boards have been placed in advance to inform drivers about the closure details. Special duty police officers will be present at the site to assist with safety procedures. First responders and emergency vehicles have been notified about the planned closures.

All scheduled work is weather permitting and may change depending on conditions.

“HDOT thanks the public for its cooperation as we work to maintain safe facilities.”
