The Hawai‘i Department of Transportation (HDOT) has announced a full closure of the Temporary Kapa‘a Bypass Road (Route 5600) in Līhuʻe, Hawai‘i. The closure will affect traffic between mile post 0 to 1.0, stretching from Kūhiō Highway to Olohena Road.

This one-way southbound road will be closed on Wednesday, April 30 from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. and again on Thursday, May 1 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. During these times, traffic will be diverted onto Lehua Street.

The reason for the closure is to facilitate the reconstruction of weakened pavement areas and to install new pavement at the approaches and over the existing steel bridge along the route.

HDOT has put up variable message boards to inform the public of the closure. For information on weekly lane closures in Kaua‘i, visit https://hidot.hawaii.gov/highways/roadwork/kauai/.

For further inquiries, the media may contact HDOT’s Public Affairs Office at 808-587-2160.
