The Hawaiʻi Department of Transportation (HDOT) has announced that a single lane on Kaumualiʻi Highway (Route 50) will be closed for emergency guardrail repairs. The closure will take place between mile post 5.4 and 5.6 near Kāhili Road on Tuesday, September 30, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Traffic in the area will be managed by alternating vehicles through the open lane.

According to HDOT, the guardrail was damaged during a motor vehicle crash on Sunday night, September 28. The department said the repair must be completed within 48 hours of notification. Work is limited to daytime hours due to bird fledgling season, which restricts construction activities at night.

Highway users can find updated information about weekly lane closures on Kauaʻi by visiting HDOT’s website at https://hidot.hawaii.gov/highways/roadwork/kauai/.
