Work to replace a drain line under Honoapi‘ilani Highway (Route 30) in Kahului will begin next week, according to the Hawaiʻi Department of Transportation (HDOT). The project will take place in the left northbound lane between Prison and Dickenson Streets, where a continuous closure is already in effect for preparations.

The department stated that construction is set to start on Tuesday, Jan. 20 and is expected to last for at least 30 days. Work hours are scheduled from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on weekdays. The affected lane will remain closed even outside of working hours, but one northbound lane will be open for traffic.

“Please obey all traffic controls and drive carefully around the workers,” HDOT advised.

The Hawaii Department of Transportation is responsible for overseeing multi-modal transportation across the six major Hawaiian islands, including airports, harbors, and highways. It coordinates with federal and county agencies to maintain and improve infrastructure in order to support economic growth and ensure safe mobility (official website).
