The Hawaiʻi Department of Transportation (HDOT) has announced that daytime work will take place on the Wailua Bridge over Kūhiō Highway (Route 56), between Kuamoʻo Road and Wailua Marina Road. The scheduled dates for this work are Tuesday, October 28, and Friday, October 31.

According to HDOT, these closures are required as part of the ongoing Wailua Bridge Repair Project. The contractor is set to pour concrete for the pier caps during these dates. Additional work still to be completed includes drilled shafts, spall repairs, and scour protection to strengthen the bridge structure. The project is projected to finish in March 2026.

To keep drivers informed, variable message boards have been placed along Kūhiō Highway. HDOT advises road users to check current lane closure schedules on Kauaʻi by visiting the department’s website at https://hidot.hawaii.gov/highways/roadwork/kauai/.

For further information, the public can contact the HDOT Public Affairs Office at 808-587-2160.
