The County of Maui Department of Water Supply announced on April 15 that the deadline for its 8th Annual Water Source Protection Video Contest has been extended to April 24, 2026. The contest is open to all students in grades seven through twelve in Maui County.

The extension gives more students the opportunity to participate and raise awareness about the importance of protecting water sources and maintaining water quality. Organizers say the competition aims to engage youth in environmental stewardship by encouraging them to create videos centered on this year’s theme, “Ola I Wai – Water is Life.”

Contest guidelines require each video entry to be three to five minutes long and submitted in .mp4 format. Up to four students may collaborate on a single entry, which must include their names. Participants are advised to plan scripts carefully, consider camera and audio placement, and give credit for any resources used.

Entries will be judged based on creativity, originality, adherence to the theme, accuracy, and production quality. Prizes up to $350 will be awarded.

Students can submit their entries either by mail or delivery at One Main Plaza in Wailuku or electronically via Microsoft 365. More information about contest rules and entry forms can be found at the Department of Water Supply’s website at https://waterresources.mauicounty.gov/224/2026-8th-Annual-Source-Protection-Video-. General information about the department is available at www.mauicounty.gov/water.

By extending the deadline, organizers hope more young people will have time to participate and share their perspectives on water conservation.
